Area Meeting Reports

2011

March 2011

Thank you to those that attended today. It was good to see so many cars at the first meet of the year. The weather was good for most of the meet. It did however change for the worse on my way home. I hope you all got home dry.

It was nice to meet up with five new members today. These were Dave Morrison who has been collecting parts and is planning a build this year, Simon Cridge who is building a Locost with Luego body, Frank Boxall in a very nice Hudson Trike, John in a Lomax four wheel car and last but not least Dave in a Vincent.

There has again been a problem with our meeting dates and the Hotel this year, I handed a list of our planned meeting dates to the duty manager at our October meet last year. (It was a very busy day for them)

These didn’t get booked for us. I contacted the hotel during the week to check we were all booked in and was told we hadn’t got anything booked. I managed to book us in for today. After the meeting I went and booked us in for the remainder of the year.

I was told by the manager that they now use the room we used to use for our meetings for dining parties so we would from now on have to use the dance floor. They can only supply us with a small room next month and they are not able to accommodate us at all in May. (A big wedding party)

Alan & Dawn will be looking at some alternative venues for just for our May meet and I will feed back the information they supply me with. Obviously if these venues turnout to be better than the Park we may move our venue to a new venue.

I will be sending out an e mail later this week to add names to the events that I didn’t write down at the meeting.

Buxhall fete (Stowmarket) 30th July

June 2011

Thank you to those that attended today.

Following the weather forecast for the day I was expecting a lot of members in tintops and not much else, I was therefore pleasantly surprised that we had 18 kits and two specials present.

One of these specials was Phil Judd in an all aluminium replica 1963 Le Mans Lidner Knocker low drag E type Jaguar. As far as the build went, it was a bare ally shell and nine or so weeks later was pretty much finished, some severe project management involved. I think on its first "off the leash" outing at woodbridge runway it hit 162 mph. Since then it’s gone from webbers to throttle bodies and injection, It should be good for hi 160's maybe 170.

Phil visited us back in 2008 in his other racing spec E type (what it is to have money)

Due to me being at Kimbolton next month I covered a lot in this meeting to lessen the load for Neil Brown who will be looking after those that aren’t attending Kimbolton, at the next area meet.

We have recruited five new members since the last area meet. Unfortunately none of them could make it today.

Following the meeting which by the way stayed dry, eight cars went for a drive to a local charity raising event which was organized by one of our members, after a bit of time and a few different routes we managed to find the correct venue. This gave us an opportunity to have some food in the way of burgers, following the gas being turned off at the Scole inn due to a leak. As the afternoon developed the rain came as promised and we headed home.

Newark 18th/19th June

I will be going on Saturday morning hopefully with Paul Taylor contact me if you wish to join us we will be meeting at west Lynn at 09.00.

I will be camping over and travelling back Sunday afternoon. (This is very weather permitting)

Foxham Stadium 18th June

Steve Keay sent me an e mail it goes like this.

I know this is a little late but |I’m organising a small show at the stock car track next sat evening, I need around 17 cars max but at the mo I only have around 7 and two bikes. Could you ask any of the guys if they are interested and if so to go on the East Anglian forum on Pistonheads and add their names? If you go onto Piston heads you'll see the thread. It’s probably the best meeting of the year. Brisca F1's these are unlimited power V8's around 700hp and full contact and the National hot rods which are the fastest Oval racers and it’s their last meeting before the world championship so always a big field of cars

All the info about times and meeting point are all on the thread.

Cheers Steve :)

We will be leaving this location at 09.30 at the latest.

Direction to Bawburgh: follow the A47 southern by-pas towards Swaffham. Take the exit B1108 toward Watton. At the top of the slip road turn left towards Watton, Hingham. After 300 meters turn right on to stocks hill (signed Bawburgh) follow the road downhill for approximately 1 mile, you will see a telephone box on your right, and then immediately a hump backed bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the road round to the left then stop. This is the Harts lane/New road junction.

All being well there should be someone there from 09.00 to guide you in.

If you are coming from the A11 and turn left onto the A47 by-pass, the B1108 will be the first exit you need to take.
