Area Meeting Reports

2012

March 2012

A lovely day and very nice to see you all again after our winter break.

It was also good to meet Steve, Chris and June all new members for 2012.

Canopy shelter

We have received a payment of £200 from the Robin Hood Owners Club.

I will be buying a shelter once the walls for the 4.5 Mtr shelter become available again (mid March)

These are a lot more suitable for windy conditions and much larger, 4.5 metres square as appose to our 3 metre gazebo we currently use, so more of us can keep dry.

RHOCAR Members

Those of you that are RHOCAR members that haven't renewed your membership yet it is now due.

Hood Manufacturer.

I’ve been contacted by a person called Richard.

He works for or owns a company called Snuggtopz. They make canvas tops and upholstery for boats, Richard has suggested that he could also make hoods for our cars and seat covers etc.

They are local only being in long Stratton. (9miles from scole)

He also has available a 1.6 Zetec still in the crate, a St170 manifold fitted with bike carbs and a megasquirt ecu. He didn’t state a price.

Events.

Thetford fun day Sunday 3rd June
Norwich Classic Car show Sunday 3rd June.

These two events clash this year we have therefore decided to attend the Norwich Classic Car show.

Gt Welnetham Show

The new organizer has tried very hard to get us to attend this show again this year.

As we have an event on each other weekend in June I won’t be attending.

If you wish to attend it please let me know.

Cars on the green 15th July

Kimbolton Fayre 15th July

These two events clash this year we have therefore decided to attend the Cars on the green event.

This has a new venue this year it is being held at Nowton Park near Bury st Edmunds. It will also host the Bury car show at the same time.

Norfolk Gala Day

There will be no gala this year.

This is the web announcement.

I regret to announce that there will be no gala day in 2012. Norfolk showground ltd have withdrawn from the partnership.

Whilst we could rent the site in 2012 the cost would exceed recent profits.

I have been unable to find other partners or a suitable site for 2012.

May I thank all of you that have made the gala day such a success in the past.

I will contact you again in 2013 if the situation changes.

Donnington kit car show. 1st /2nd September.

It's back. Bigger, better and a lot more fun...

The Donington Kit Car Show will be an interactive and fun weekend celebrating the build and ownership experience of these fantastic performance cars. If you're new to kit cars prepare to be impressed, if you're already part of the scene let us reinvigorate your enthusiasm!

http://www.doningtonkitcarshow.com/

750mc race meeting that same weekend

I will be keeping an eye on things and feed back if I think it is worth attending. This year.

Buxhall fete.

The organizer has suggested that we bring more cars this year than last. And pay a fee of £5 per car, they will in turn present us with a trophy.

I’ve been asked to get you feed back on this. Would you prefer to attend and not pay? Or pay and possible win a trophy?

I don’t personally feel we would be able to bring many more cars anyway.

We voted to say we won’t be paying to attend.

Venue change

I’m  aware that those that used to eat at the park are wishing to change our meeting venue again.

Could you all please think about an alternative? The idea venue needs to be free having a large car park a meeting room and do not just main meals but snacks and sandwiches etc. And ideally be in the diss area ( this is pretty central for the club)

On the same subject I was sent an e mail recently.

Dear Sir/Madam,

A few years ago we held a ‘Dicklefest` at Dickleburgh Church and Town Meadow, with Classic cars invited to bring along their cars and any pennants, automobilia stalls etc.

This was a yearly event for five or six years and was very successful, but unfortunately the Church members who set up the Church side of the event were no longer able to carry out these duties. So ‘Dicklefest` fell by the wayside.

We are still not in a position to run a ‘Dicklefest`, which is such a shame as we have all the facilities needed. With the Old School in the Church grounds converted to useful meeting rooms, toilets, kitchen etc.

This letter is to suggest if your Club is looking for a venue for a Club meeting or show. I am sure we could accommodate.

The Church members would be happy to run the kitchen, with possibly all-day-breakfasts, bacon butties, soup, sandwiches, tea/coffee etc.

We also have a local brewery ‘Buffeys` who have been approached to supply a bar with local beers etc.

We now have two large marquees for hire for hard and field standing.

I realise this may be too late for your 2012 venue’s, but please keep this in mind for future planning.

I have sent a reply e mail saying

Hello Brian.
Thank you for your e mail.
I have a couple of question for you regarding the offer you have made us.
Firstly what would be the cost for the use of the hall and car park? and does this price depend on how many members eat?
and we normally hold our meetings on a Sunday morning at 11am would this be a problem / inconvenience to your church and congregation?

So far we have had suggestions of the fighting cocks at Winfarthing, Bressingham gardens, The Old Ram Coaching Inn, Tivetshall St. Mary, The Four horse shoes Thornham Magna

If you have any reasons about these four being suitable or not please let me know.

T shirts /Hoodies.

T shirts are still available at last year’s price of £18

New for this year we now have Hoodies. Available in Navy Blue or Black (price to be confirmed, about £20)

Our next club meeting is April 8th at Scole

April 2012

Not the best of meets, firstly the weather was pretty damp and dull, it was also Easter Sunday so I guess a combination of poor weather and family time prevented a lot of members from attending.

At least I got a chance to test my new half roof. It seems to work better than the last one and it keep the heat in the car a lot better.

Canopy shelter

I have now brought a shelter and three walls for it.

We will test it out at Stoneleigh.

Venue change

I’m aware that those that used to eat at the park are wishing to change our meeting venue again.

Could you all please think about an alternative? The idea venue needs to be free having a large car park a meeting room and not just do main meals but snacks and sandwiches etc. And ideally be in the Diss area (this is pretty central for the club)

I would like to say a big thank you to Alan and Dawn who have visited a couple of potential venues for us. There will be more on a possible change next month.

I have also received an email back from the Dickleburgh Church group.

Dickleburgh Church Hall is free, they would like us to buy tea/coffee and light snacks. If we would like a bar, we would need to make it worth his time setting up. The parking and field are free, if we wanted to hire the marquee it would be £50.00. They can let you have Sundays after 11.00 but not the third Sunday of the month.

So far we have had suggestions of The Crown Inn Pulham Market, The Crossways inn Scole, The fighting cocks at Winfarthing, Bressingham gardens, The Old Ram Coaching Inn, Tivetshall St. Mary, The Four horse shoes Thornham Magna

If you have any reasons about any of these being suitable or not please let me know.

If we did move to a new venue, that had a choice of good quality Sunday roast @ £7.95 or Sandwiches/baguettes @ £4.95, how many of you would eat at the venue on a regular basis?

How many of you buy drinks at are chosen venue on a regular basis?

T shirts /Hoodies.

New for this year we now have Hoodies. Available in Navy Blue or Black (price to be confirmed, about £20)

Those that ordered Hoodies last month they should be available next month.

Our next club meeting is May 13th at Scole

May 2012

A very nice day with excellent weather and a few cars that hadn’t attend our meets before.

The new cars were a GBS Zero driven by Martin Smith, a Birkin driven by Peter Jackson, a Robin Hood 3A driven by Paul Petch, a locost driven by Mike Oldham, a Quantum H4 driven by Steve Johnson and Terry Keeley’s old Tiger E1 driven by Stuart Brierley.

Bob Rowell would like to donate a couple of my big garage items for the use of club members.

First is a Sealey 2 ton engine crane, and second is a Clarke 750kg engine stand.

Both items are being kept at Alan and Dawn's house in Tacolneston.

The engine stand breaks down small enough to fit in most cars, but the crane is very big and heavy and would need collecting in a van or estate car. However Alan does have a van.

A couple of members had items to give away and sell, it was suggested that members bring any items they would like to sell or give away to any future meeting.

Our next club meeting is July 8th at Scole

July 2012

Venue change. Very important please read.

Hello all.

As you may or may not know we have been holding our club meetings at the Scole Inn, in Scole since last October.

The agreement we had with the Owner of the hotel at the time was: we could hold our meetings at the hotel including the use of the conference room all free of charge.

I booked the room for the remaining two months last year. At the start of this year I gave the duty manager a list of our meeting dates for 2012. (For him to enter into the diary)

Today we arrived at the venue as normal, as it was raining, we all went to the bar and got a drink, at 12 we went up to the conference room and started our meeting.

Within a few minutes one of the staff came in to the room and asked if we had booked the room, the arrangement we have was explained to her, she went off and soon came back stating that I needed to go and see the duty manager straight away. This I did and again I explained that we had an agreement with Zoe the hotel owner, to this I was told that the hotel had changed hands one year ago and the agreement no longer stands, it was also stated by her that we have never attended the hotel for our meetings in the last year. I was told that if we wanted to continue to use the room for our meetings we would have to book it at a cost of £20 per meeting.

Firstly it is less than a year ago since we set up the arrangement, so the new owners couldn’t have taken over a year ago and they must be blind if they haven’t seen us arriving, buying drinks, going up to the conference room and then leaving at the end of the meeting (our cars aren’t the quietest)

Anyway we will no longer be holding our meetings at the Scole Inn.

The next area meeting will be in October at a new venue to be arranged.

We have a show we can attend at Old Warden, Biggleswade on August the 12th this replaces the August meeting.

We have an event to attend at Fornham St Martin (Bury St Edmunds) on 9th September this replaces the September meeting. This event needs to be booked (free to attend)

Please keep an eye out for emails from me or check the latest news section of the club website www.eastangliankitcars.co.uk to keep up to date, especially over the next couple of months.

New Venue.

Hello All.

Debbie and I went out and looked at some possible area meet venues.

I’m happy to say that we have picked the Crown Inn at Pulham Market.

The crown inn is a grade 2 listed building positioned in the centre of a nice quiet Norfolk Village.

It is 8 miles from Diss and 15 miles from Norwich.

I have spoken to the owner who has agreed to let us use the function room or 2nd bar for our meetings free of charge.

We tried their roast and I must say it was the best roast I have eaten in a long time and only cost £6.50.

There are also several bar meals available all at good prices, starting at £5

Main meals are £6.50 for 1 course £8.95 for 2 courses and£9.95 for 3 courses.

The staff that dealt with us and the owner was all very pleasant.

The only problem I could really see was the car parking, the owner has said he will move the garden benches from the front of the Inn so we can park along the front of the building and to the left of the building as you look at it (see attached picture) this I believe will give us ample room. If it comes to it we can even park on the large village green, in front of the Inn.

See the Old Warden Show report for pictures etc.

New Venue.

Our next meeting on the 14th October will be at the Crown Inn at Pulham Market.

I have heard that the pub is up for sale, so I don’t know how long we will be meeting at this venue.

If it comes to it we can even park on the large village green, in front of the Inn.

Christmas Lunch.

I plan to arrange a Christmas lunch at the Stag Attleborough again this year. This will be on Saturday 15th December

How many are interested.

Our next club meeting is October 14th at the crown Inn Pulham Market

October 2012

This was our first meeting at the new venue and all seemed to go well. We filled the front of the pub and one of the side car parks, but there was still plenty of room in the other car park on the other side of the pub (this car park looks to belong to the church but I have been told we can use it as well) next year I will ask if we can have the bollards removed to allow us to park our cars on the village green. I’m sure the pub must have appreciated us in attendance; I believe they sold twenty roasts and seven other meals. All at a time of the day when they were pretty much empty. Next month I will have two pieces of paper printed one for roasts and one for other meals, so you can add your meal choices to them when you arrive, I will then hand them over to the bar staff before we start our meeting.

Events.

As you can imagine I have very little to talk about.

We have however been invited to attend the Charity Race Experience Day Snetterton on the 18th November.

We decided that we didn’t want a club pitch at the event.

Check these links. It may be will be a good day out.

http://www.facebook.com/bhfsnetterton

http://www.charityraceexperience.com/car-clubs/

Mobile network.

We have a mobile network within the club if you would like to join.

If you agree to join and give your mobile number it will be added to the list and you will receive a list of all of those others.

I will need your name, where you live, post code, mobile or home or both numbers

The advantages are if you were to get caught out away from home you could call someone in the area for a hand or storage for your car until you can fix it or arrange to get it collected.

The member you call may even have the tools for you to borrow to fix your car.

There are 34 members on the list.

If you wish to join please send me your details.

Likewise if you have changed your number or moved house please let me know so I can amended the list.

BBQ for 2013

I’m thinking about arranging a club BBQ for sometime next year. This maybe at someone’s house, a village hall or Pub.

Christmas Lunch.

The Christmas lunch has been booked at the Stag Attleborough. This will be on Saturday 15th December at 1pm

We have 23 booked for this, plus 2 maybes.

I have collected some of the deposits and will collect the remainder next month.

Other items

We have been given the dates for next year’s Buxhall Fete. This will be held on 3rd August

Our next club meeting is November 11th at the Crown Inn Pulham Market

November 2012

Neil Brown.

Neil is leaving the club after 16-17 years.

He is our longest serving member at the moment.

I feel that he is the reason that we are all present here today.

The club was fading fast and he intervened and in the end took over the running the East Anglian section of RHOCAR, bringing it back to life and encouraging new members to join such as me.

Later I took over running the club and continued to increase the clubs profile and activates.

I later formed the East Anglian Kit car club, please bear in mind that if Neil hadn’t have got the club back on its feet way back then we probably wouldn’t be here today.

Neil has parted company with his car and will be attending this year’s Christmas meal and then hanging up his goggles so to speak.

I decided I wanted to give Neil something to remember us by, after three of us agreed from the fifteen most active members, I sent e mails to. We have purchased a Die cast Caterham 7 which I will present to Neil at the Christmas meal. We brought one to look as close to Neil’s car as we could.

I handed the tub around for any members to contribute that wished to and collected a total £67.50 Bob and I will make up the shortfall.

Christmas Lunch

Christmas lunch at the Stag Attleborough is again this year. This will be on Saturday 15th December from 1pm.

I have collected the remaining deposits from those that haven’t yet paid theirs.

Winter break

Please keep an eye out for e mails from me over the winter break. Remember a lot of members are building and making alterations to their cars and may need advice etc,

I will also be updating the mobile network and would prefer to do this once and not have to do a second time once members say my number is incorrect.

Venue

Are you all happy with this venue?

The majority of those present were happy to continue at the Crown Inn.

We will start to use the function room next year, and I will ask if we can park on the village green.

Support throughout the year

I would very much like to thank all of you. You have made the club another successful year despite the very poor weather at times.

I would especially like to thank Alan and Dawn for their extra contribution to the club selling our club T shirts and Hoodies, and for their help finding a new meeting venue.

We have had to endure three shows being cancelled, one for good and two due to the weather and numerous shows with very poor weather.

Last year we had an average turnout at the area meets of 19 cars including tin tops and this year we have meet that figure with an average again of 19.

I have made some changes to the data base I hold. If a member doesn’t attend for two years, I feel it is time to remove them from the list; this will give me a better Idea of how many actual members we have. At the moment this figure stands at 117 members with 55 of these attending at least one event this year.

We have lost 8 members this year.

We have gained 8 members this year.

So we are looking to be staying at the same level of attendance.

Our next club meeting is March 10th 2013 at the crown Inn Pulham Market
