Area Meeting Reports

November 2015

Thank you for attending today.

I had a nice drive to and from the last club meet of 2015. A great drive apart from the hail stones on the way (very cold, hard and painful) they soon stopped though. I also remembered wet leaves induce wheel spins and back end drifting, fun at times and worrying at times.

I don’t have a lot to say.

Events.

We have been invited to the following event.

Toy and Train model fair

I am the organiser of a Toy and Train model fair (J&D FAIRS) at Copdock Hotel (Cameo) Ipswich (on the old A12) and are looking to arrange a classic car meet in conjunction with our fair; any car club members would be able to attend the fair at half price (£1.25 -normally £2.50). If your club is interested in attending at the Copdock Hotel; there is a very large car park behind the hotel and there will be refreshments in the hall where your members will be able to source models of their cars and much much more. If your club members are interested could you give me a call on 01953 861348. (Bikes also welcome)

The dates are: all 2016; JAN 24TH, APRIL 24TH, JUNE 3RD, SEPT 18TH, NOV 27TH (ALL SUNDAYS FROM 10.30 UNTIL 2.30)

Anyone interested?

We will look at the summer dates and if we have nothing planned may attend one show.

Winter meet.

It has been suggested that we could hold a winter meet in either January or February.

At the Norwich snow centre to participate in tubing (sliding down a ski slope on/in a rubber ring) followed by a meal at Zaks American restaurant in Poringland.

Is this of interest to any of you?

I’ve taken a few names for this. We hope to do it on the last Sunday of January 31st.

New club banner.

I intent to look at banner options over the winter break, although the present banner has served us well, it is now  being problematic and I feel it’s time for a change.

Farewell

As this is the last time I will speak to some of you this year, I would like to thank you all for your attendance and input over the last year. Special thanks goes to Alan & Dawn for their hard work selling the club clothing and their help planning the fish and chip run to Southwold, Roy for his organizing of the Public liability insurance, for another year and

Dave & Noreen for taking the Event shelter to most of the events we have attended this year.

I hope to see you all again next year; our first meeting will be here on March 13th.

Thanks Martin.

October 2015

Hello All.

I’ve brought several copies of the menu choices if you want to mark your choices.

Alternatively you can take them home and e mail your choices or you can tell me your choice when I send out an e mail on the subject.

September 2015

We had 9 kit cars present today and 3 specials and a motor bike.

We welcomed a new member Craig Limacher; he intends to build a locost.

Events.

Stradbrooke fete carnival and fun day 13th September after club meet.

We had been invited to this event; we left the Old ram after we had finished our meals we headed to the show with four kit cars, a Mercedes SLK, a Mazda MX5 and a VW camper van following up the rear.

On route the weather changed from cloudy to drizzle then rain, we meet lots of cars heading away from the event.

It looked like we had missed a good show unfortunately because of the weather most had already left or were packing up.

End of season club run.

The plan is to do a fish and chip run to Southwold.

This is being planned for the 27th September. This is very dependent on the weather. If the forecast is poor will we postpone until the following Sunday (4th October).

The plan is to start at the Old Buckenham airfield or the Old Ram at Tivetshall. I will contact the Airfield to check it is ok for us to turn up and meet there before the off (coffee, cake and toilet), if they object I’ll plan it for the Old Ram.

The start time is 10.30.

I would be willing to have an earlier meet in Thetford Tesco.  And then drive together to the start for those that wish to, if there is enough interest to do so.

If you think you might be attending could you please let me know?

If you would like to meet at Thetford please let me know.

If the event is postponed I in tend to let you all know on the Saturday night via Facebook, email and text.

But I need to know who intends to go to do this.

Christmas lunch.

It was agreed that we should hold the Christmas lunch at the Stag again this year.

The Proposed date of the12th December is already fully booked; I have therefore provisionally booked us a table for 27 on the 19th December at 1pm.

This number can be increased or decreased as need be.

A deposit of £10 per person needs to be paid to me before October 12th. (Please note this deposit is none refundable once I've paid it to the Stag)

If you would like to attend and you’re not on the list below, please let me know so I can add you to the list.

Club Clothing.

It is now possible to order the new range of club clothing.

You will need to fill in an order form and pay the full payment when placing order.

Next meeting at the Old Ram is October 11th.

Thanks Martin.

August 2015

What a day in more ways than one.

Lovely weather and a great turn out with 22 kit cars present.

Events.

Stradbrooke fete CARnival and fun day 13th September after club meet.

We have been invited to this event; does anyone else wish to attend after our planned club meet next month?

It was said at last month’s meeting that we wouldn’t be let in if we arrived late. Robert contacted the organizer and this was his answer.

Hi Rob

Cars will not be refused if they arrive late this year. They may be asked to wait for permission to enter the field to ensure the safety of pedestrians but this should only take a few minutes.

We are parking cars from the front backwards so it will be necessary for you to create a row further back in the display area so that you can all be together. We would ask the display vehicles park promptly and not travel around the site. From the access point you will travel straight ahead and then park. I hope this clarifies things for you all and we very much look forward to seeing you all on the day.

If you wish to be added to the list please let me know.

At present I have 10 plus 1 maybe.

Old Buckenham air show and car show 1st & 2nd Aug

We looked at this event a few years ago and were put off by the price. This year I’m told that the entrance prices have been amended, entrance is £10 per car not per person as per previous years. Or £12 for the whole weekend. I started a list of those that wish to attend? I will do a club booking for the Sunday.

Buxhall Fete 1st Aug

I’ve been sent an e mail from the organizer asking if any of us wish to attend this year.

I explained that I had asked already this year, but I would ask again for him.

One member is now attending.

Club Clothing

I have been moving forward and would like to give you some feedback.

Logo.

We will not be changing to a logo.

I know I may have given the impression that we were when I sent out an e mail with a logo for you to comment on.

The reason I sent that e mail is as follows:

One of members went to see a clothing supplier on our behalf; this supplier in turn found us on Facebook and posted a picture of the logo for members to comment on. He had said there would be no set up charge but when I spoke to him on the phone there was in fact a set up charge for a logo.

We had discussed a logo in depth a few years ago and decided plain text suited most of us best.

New

I’ve been in contact with a new supplier, following a lead from two of our members.

His name is Clarke Howe; he runs the Cambridgeshire section of the WSCC

His company is a well established supplier of work wear and safety equipment, he also supplies the national Westfield Owners club with their  Polo shirts and sweatshirts.

Planed Range

Premium polo shirt (one colour)

Two colour Polo shirt ( navy with royal blue insert)

Team shirt (two colours)

There is also later on down the road the option of Sweat shirts, hoodies and jackets.

I showed some pictures of the colour designs and received a few questions which I will be addressing.

Prices

The price includes the clubs text and name on the front chest area and the clubs web address on the back across the shoulders.

Premium polo shirt (one colour) £15.54

Two colour Polo shirt £18.00

Team shirt (two colours) £23.40

Also there is a £5 postage charge for orders less than £40

How many of you would be interested in ordering any of the following items?

Polo 2

Two colour polo 8

Team 17

Thanks Martin.

May 2015

Hello.

Thank you to those that attended today. What a brilliant turn out despite a few of the regulars being unable to attend. We had 17 kit cars and 2 specials in attendance. This included Neil Brown's/ Bob Rowell's Old Robin hood S7 (see picture below)

Events  2015

Retrokings Snetterton 31st May.

I still haven’t received the tickets for this event yet and we don’t meet again before the event. May I suggest we meet on the side of the runway heading toward the circuit entrance; I will then distribute the tickets there.

Norwich classic 7th June.

This event is in four weeks time.

This event is being held at the Strumpshaw steam museum.

Old Hall, Norwich NR13 4HR

Does anyone else which to attend?

We will meet at Harford bridge Tesco Ipswich Rd, Norwich, Norfolk NR4 6DZ  at 9am and travel the 10 mile to the show together.

Events list.

I talked through events list all events are booked. I will be taking names for some events at later meets. And I will need to take payment for the Norwich charity show before or at the June meeting.

Walsingham craft Fayre.

I’ve been asked by a club member (Dominic Eaves) to try and muster a few cars to attend a craft Fayre at Walsingham (between Fakenham and Wells) this is being held between 11 & 3 on July 11th. I have two cars so far. Please let me know if you would also like to attend

T Shirts/Hoodies

Howard has agreed to talk to a new supplier and get back to me if he doesn’t charge a set up fee.

I have also been informed of a person that may be of some help to us; he runs the Cambridgeshire Westfield owner club and supplies them with their shirts. However it would only be the East Anglian Owner club and Name text, no logos or car art. If we were to take this route.

Next meeting June 14th at the Old Ram Tivetshall.

April 2015

Hello.

Thank you to those that attended today. Another nice day despite the weather forecast.

We gained two new members Steve green in a Tiger Cat E1 and Steve Float in a Mk Indy

A good turn out with 17 kit cars and 3 sports cars present.

year.ing on 29th April 2015 with the aim of getting as

Meeting venue.

Chris and June had been very helpful looking for an alternative venue.

The Crown at Pulham is out of the question because it is very busy on a Sunday now.

The Fighting Cocks at Winfarthing looks like a promising alternative.

We have been offered a room to meet and a menu to suit us. They also have a large parking area.

I feel that we should stay where we are at the moment.

The food was good today probably better than it was last year.

Events  2015

I talked through events list all events are booked. I will be taking names for some events at later meets. And I will need to take payment for the Norwich charity show before or at the June meeting.

Stoneleigh

We should receive our Stoneleigh pitch as normal. (59i)

I won’t be camping at the event this year; I may not even attend at all.

Is anyone going for the weekend and would like to take the event shelter?

Is anyone going on the Sunday and would like to take the event shelter? If i decide not to attend?

Retrokings Snetterton 31st May.

I collected £10 from each of those present today that booked to attend.

I will collect the remaining when I next see those booked to attend.

Evening events,

Snetterton Circuit

The third Wednesday (at Snetterton) of the month this will be this Wednesday

Whitwell station.

Last  Wednesday of every month.

Other issues.

The club website has been paid for, for this year and next.

The clubs Public liability insurance has been paid for this  year.

T Shirts/Hoodies

Alan has been looking into an alternative T Shirt/Hoody supplier, the new one that he had in mind charges an initial set up fee of £60 and a further £60 for each other new design i.e. GBS/Flags/Westfield etc. The one we presently use doesn’t.

Frank and Howard have two more suppliers in mind and they will letting us know more next meeting, their findings.

Alan has found out no more and Frank and Howard were not present at today’s meeting.

Next meeting May 10th at the Old Ram Tivetshall

March

Hello.

Thank you to those that attended today. Luckily it was a very pleasant day with a lot of sunshine.

We were joined by a new member today his name is David Tyler he drives a Pembleton SS 3 wheeler.

Meeting venue.

I was going to say that Area meetings this year will remain here at the Old Ram Inn, on the second Sunday of each month with the exception of the July meeting.

Because the Country Fayre at kimbolton clashes with our club meeting on July 12th I’ve moved our meeting forward to the 5th July

However with this recent development I’m not so sure.

Although the normal room and provisions had been pre booked. One week before our meeting I was told, we wouldn’t be able to use the normal room and there wouldn’t be any food available until 1.30. I was only told this because I call them, after being tipped off by a member and local.

There is no guarantee that this won’t happen again.

However the pub isn’t normally very busy and Chances are this will be the only time this will happen.

The new manager might not even last long (they don’t normally)

I had started to look at alternative meeting places (going back to the Crown at Pulham market did spring to mind)

The Crown is out of the question, it has become very popular. Two of our members visited the crown after our meeting.

Their email to me said “Hi Martin, I’ve checked out the Crown – prices are £9-95, £12-95 and £15 for one, two and three courses. The problem was it was fully booked, there was nowhere to park, almost nowhere to sit and no food available for casual customers. I don’t think this place is for us. Regards, Chris.”

Some others came up with a few thoughts as to alternative venues and these are going to be looked into.

I feel that wherever we go we will be fine until the pub becomes popular or does what it does well.

Events  2015

I’m now taking names for the following events

Earsham hall Classic Vehicle Rally and Country Fayre. Sunday 3rd May

This event clashes with the National kit car festival at Stoneleigh but some of you may want to attend this show instead of Stoneleigh.

I had no interest from members regarding this event so I won’t be planning a club pitch.

Norwich Classic car show 7th June (Strumpshaw steam museum) (used to be at the Anglia windows site)

I have now taken the names of 20 that wish to attend this event, let me know if you would like to attend.

It has been suggested that we meet at Tesco Harford Bridge and travel to the event in convoy.

Norwich charity car show 16th August (Show ground)

I’ve now taken the names of 21 that wish to attend this event, let me know if you would like to attend.

I’ve booked us an area for 20 cars at the moment. This will have to be increased.

Cars by the lake 6th September

I see that the organizers are asking for entries into this event already.

I’ve taken the names of 19 today that wish to attend.

I will try and book us the same size pitch as previous years (25 cars)

New events.

1st. Castle Combe Classic, Kit & Retro Action Day 2015 June20th

(Saturday before Cars on the Green)

There was no real interest from the members present today.

To get free entry in a kit car you must book in advance.

Club pitches are I’m told in blocks of ten cars, as we have no interest I won’t be booking us a pitch.

2nd. Retrokings at Snetterton 31st May

http://retrokings.co.uk/

This is a brand new event with lots of on and off track activity including a sprint and also club displays

I will be contacted the organizers and sending out an e mail regarding this event.

Watton Classic Event June 21st 2015 ‏ (clashes with Cars on the Green)

I sent out an e mail regarding this and it would seem that most prefer to attend the Cars on the Green event, so I will plan a club pitch there and not at Watton.

Stoneleigh

We should receive our Stoneleigh pitch as normal.

I won’t be camping at the event this year; I may not even attend at all.

Palgrave journey through the ages 20th June

If you wish to attend this event I need to know ASAP please.

Next meeting April 12th at the moment it will be here.

2014

November

Hello.

Thank you to those that attended today. It was a very damp day, but lucky for me no rain on the route to the meet only puddles.

RHOCaR.

I’m no longer the East Anglian area secretary for RHOCaR.

Topics for this meeting.

 Christmas meal 13th December 1pm

I collected the meal choices of those present today, I will send out an e mail to the others not present today.

Events  2015

I’m now taking names for the following events

Norwich Classic car show 10th May (Anglia windows)

I took the names of 13 that wish to attend this event in 2015, let me know if you would like to attend.

Norwich charity car show 16th August (Show ground)

I took the names of 16 that wish to attend this event in 2015, let me know if you would like to attend.

I’ve booked us an area for 20 cars

T shirts/Hoodies

A discussion started regarding the club t shirts and how quickly they wash out and loose there colour. It was asked if members could purchase maroon shirts (like mine)

I spoke to Alan and he says they can, there are a few colour choices but this tends to increase the price of the item.  He is planning to talk to an alternative supplier; he is also going to look at crew shirts. We will discuss this subject next year when Alan has discussed our options with the new supplier.

As this is the last time I will speak to most of you this year, I would like to thank you all for your attendance and input over the last year, especially Alan & Dawn  for selling the T shirts & Hoodies and the great Club run they organized at the end of September.

I hope to see you all again next year, our first meeting will be here on March 8th.

October

Hello All.

Thank you for attending. There was a good turn out with 13 kit cars present a couple of specials and at least ten members that attended in there tin tops.

I explained my reason for resigning from the position as RHOCaR area secretary.

Visit to Old Buckenham airfield visit.

Following the meeting 13 kit cars travelled 12 miles to the Old Buckenham Airfield for a guided tour. It was a great drive on the counties A roads. I may even change the route I travel to the meetings in future.

There’s a great cafe there doing Teas & coffees, Homemade cakes and snacks.

Christmas meal 13th December 1pm

I collected the deposits today. (£10 per person non refundable)

Cost £14.75 for a two course meal

£19.75 for a three course meal

The meal is booked for 28 people, which is the maximum the Stag can accommodate of us this year.

I will be taking these deposits to the Stag this week.

Thanks Martin.

Next meeting at the Old Ram Inn November 9th

September

Hello All.

Thank you for attending.

It was great to see a collection of 17 kit cars present today plus Bob’s Mercedes SLK

Stow Maries museum visit 21st September

http://www.stowmaries.com/

I’ve decided to cancel this planned event due to lack of interest.

Club run 28th September

The Club run has been planned, starting at Thetford Tesco at 10am Sunday 28th September. There will be a Lunch stop at Sandringham, other stops along the route for fuel and drinks finishing at Dereham.

The route is Approximately 143 miles.

This is very much weather permitting, I will post on the clubs latest news page on the evening of Saturday 27th, stating if the event will go ahead or not.

Let me know if you plan to attend.

Visit to Suffolk Sports cars.

A visit has been planned for Wednesday 15 October from 6pm until 7 pm.

I spoke to Roger William Thursday and he is adamant that a midweek visit from 6-7 is the only slot he will accommodate us.

I have a list of 17 members that expressed an interest when I sent out my last email on the subject. I need to conform the date with Roger so again can I get a list of who would be available for this time and date?

It was decided at the meeting that 6pm was too early for most to get to the venue.

And that the amount of travelling for some for only a 1 hour visit wasn’t worth it.

I will send out an e mail but this event will probably be cancelled.

 Visit to Hardwick warplanes.

I sent them an e mail two weeks ago. And they haven’t replied, they don’t have a contact phone number. I think the best plan is to leave this one until next year.

I will contact them again next year and even visit them if need be.

Visit to Old Buckenham airfield visit.

I’ve booked us a visit after next month area meet.

I need to Ring during the week before with numbers and we will be given  a guided tour of the hangers and park us around the war memorial. Tea and coffee cake and snacks available.

Weather permitting.

I took names of 8 that plan to visit on the day. Let me know if you wish to be added to the list.

Christmas meal 13th December 1pm

I took names today, of 28 members.

The lunch is now fully booked. The Stag limited us to 28 places this year.

If you wish to attend but didn't get a place let me know and you will be offered a space if someone pulls out.

I will be collecting deposits at the October meeting. (£10 per person non refundable)

Cost £14.75 for a two course meal

£19.75 for a three course meal

The meal is booked for 28 people, which is the maximum the Stag can accommodate of us this year.

Thanks Martin.

August

Thank you those that attended today. We had another good turnout despite the weather.

Sorry to those of you that came out to see my new car and was disappointed to find I had left it at home.

Stonham Barns Classic Car Show & Auto jumble 17th August.

I have to apologise, I haven’t booked us in to the show at Stonham Barn.

When I started to look at the event yesterday, I thought it strange I haven’t heard anything back from them, although I had printed off the application form it seems that I hadn’t sent it off to the organizer or if I have they didn’t receive it.

I phoned the organizer yesterday and he says that they have no space remaining.

Cars by the lake 31st August

I collected the names of those that wish to attend the Cars by the lake event being held at Fornham St Martin (Bury St Edmunds)

The Meeting point is at Bury St Edmund Tesco (IP32 7JS). Meet there from 9am (leaving there at 9.30am prompt).

Strumpshaw American & Classic day 13th September

http://www.strumpshawsteammuseum.co.uk/

I collected the names of those that wish to attend the Strumpshaw American and classic show. This is an all weekend show but we will only be attending on the Saturday. Our club meeting is on the Sunday. Or we could consider attending after our club meeting its 22 miles from Tivetshall.

Meet at the show. I advise the times once I know them.

Stow Maries museum visit 21st September

http://www.stowmaries.com/

I will be gauging the interest, to see if enough members are interested to attend the planned visit to the Stow Maries aviation museum in Chelmsford CM3 6RN.

I’m considering inviting the Essex kit car club and the Essex section of RHOCaR to boost the numbers.

Please let me know if you would be interested in this event.

Coast run.

Ideas for a date to do the planned coast run.

August 17th & 24th/September 7th & 28th

It was decided to hold the coast run on the 28th September both dependant on Alan and Bob finishing it in time and the weather being suitable.

Thanks Martin.

June (2)

Hello All.

Thank you to those that attended today. The weather was really poor so there was a very poor turn out with only one kit car present for a short time. Well done Simon for bringing the Luego out. ( I guess you wouldn't have done if it had been raining when to left)

Those attending please Meet at the show. ( NR25 6AJ)

I intend to get there for 09.30 ish.

There is a slight change in price this year.

Each ticket will admit one car and a single occupant at the admission charge of £8, more than one occupant will be £10.

Those attending can meet at Newmarket services (BP A14 Southbound CB8 OXG) before 08.00 leaving at 08.15 or go direct to the show.

I need to collect names of those wishing to attend the Classic car show at Stonham barns.

I’ve got only six names to attend this show so far, plus 2 maybes. Please let me know if you wish to attend.

Other subjects

E mails.

It would appear that at least one member has not been receiving e mails from me.

And then when raised another member seems to think he also isn’t receiving them.

I wonder how many more there might be?

The mentioned member gets e mails sent to him from me if I send them just to him, but not as part of a group.

There were a few thoughts as to the reasons.

I’ve changed to a club e mail address (this may be getting blocked by some spam filtering software)

Too many members on one block e mail.

You will see I have decided to add a number at the end of the e mail subject line.

This will allow members to see that they have missed an e mail, and they can contact me and ask for the one e mail to be sent again.

I will send out some trial e mails over the next week, some from my personal e mail addresses, some from the club e mail address. Some will be just to the individual some to a group of members.

No club meet here in July.

Next meeting here 10th August

Please not I have stopped adding a those present list, I consider it to be too time consuming.

The website doesn't allow me to add a list of names using excel spreadsheets.

This also affects the adding of a list of those attending a show, I will happy send you a list via e mail if you require one.

June 8th 2014

Hello All.

Thank you for attending today. Great weather and a great turnout with 22 kit cars and three specials in attendance today.

It was nice to see some faces I haven’t seen for a while and to meet some new faces sorry I didn’t get to talk to you.

Sorry I needed to collect names for four events today.

These were Kimbolton 13th July, Norwich Charity motor show 20th July, Spitfires, Merlins & Motors (Duxford IWM) 26th July. Buxhall fete 2nd August.

If you wish to be added to these event lists let me know.

The website doesn’t allow the adding of spreadsheets. I will therefore send out an e mail with the details of those attending.

May 2014

Thank you to those that attended today. What an absolutely poor day to hold a kit car meet. High winds and heavy down pours. But even so six brave souls brought their cars out to play.

Neil Brown

I meet Neil for a coffee a couple of weeks ago he is doing well, he has one more appointment with his specialist and then he will be signed off back to his GP.

He has joined a model boat club and he is building a scaled remote control sailing ship.

RHOCAR

I finally got a reply back from RHOCAR regarding Public liability insurance.

There insurance covers 15 events per year, Stoneleigh plus one area meet per club.

I was told that this would get sorted after the AGM.

I will be holding on running this area for the time being. If they haven’t’ sorted it in a couple of month I will be resigning from the area secretary position.

We discussed the need for this type of insurance last month.

After reading more this month I’m 100% sure we need this cover.

To make things short we now have a policy in place. A big thank you goes to Roy for all of his hard work filling in quote forms and arranging a policy for us.

We had the funds to pay for the policy additionally helped, thanks to the very generous donations from Tony Dawson and Bob Rowell both donating £25 each

It was decided to put the collection pot up from 50 p £1 to ensure we can cover future costs.

For those that didn’t have a meal the quality and quantity has greatly improved.

Venue

This venue (the Old Ram) has been booked for this year.

This venue has been taken over by another company they have agreed to the same terms as the previous company.

Two of these still need the date to be confirmed.

Some Breakfast Starts. It was suggested that we hold the breakfast starts on none club meet days, It was felt that it is only fair to get our food at the pub when we hold our meeting here and not eat elsewhere before we get here, so we may have breakfast starts before shows or the coast run.

Any more ideas please let me know.
